Solar Light and Lunar Dark follow the trends set up by previous games in the series. The game starts in Soltree Town in the players room. Your mother comes in and tells you to go visit your best friend, Rodney, who is waiting for you at the computer in his house for the same reason. You walk to the lab with Rodney and the Professor lets you choose one of three Pokemon: Herovor , Purrlit , or Salatad.
After choosing your starter, Rodney runs out of the lab. Right as you step outside the Lab, Rodney decides to Battle you for the first Battle with him and the first in the game.
After the Battle, you head west to Route 1, and then south to reach the Town Keira is in. After finding Keira in Mossy Town , her mother tells you to go back to your house, because your mother has a gift for you. From that point onward, the player will set off on adventures through the Rikoto region. Also, a third Rival, Rick , battles the Player every so often; he's not so nice to you, Rodney, or Keira. Fun fact: there were no official Dark-type Gyms until Sword and Shield.
